Toki Pona on Duolingo![deactivated user]What is toki pona?
Toki Pona is a conlang with only 120 words. It has simple grammar, and is easy to learn. It is based on Taoist principles, and prefers simplicity over clarity. Today, it is the second most spoken conlang, under Esperanto, and with around the same number of speakers as Klingon.

Why should I learn it?

Without having to worry about bunches of new words to learn, you can concentrate on the grammar.

Languages can be tough to learn. Learning toki pona will give you the confidence necessary to finish that other language tree

Learning about “direct objects” and other grammar topics in a setting like toki pona can make it easier to understand in another language.

It’s relaxing to learn, and a fun challenge.

It’s easy enough that you’ll never burn out, but challenging enough to give your brain a workout!

It’s important to use your language in real life as soon as possible. With toki pona, you won’t feel nervous that you don’t know enough words of grammar to have a conversation. That confidence can carry over into other languages!

Only having a vocabulary of 120 words will help you see the world differently.

toki pona shares similarities with many other languages you may plan to study, giving you a jump start.

It uses the Latin script, meaning there will be no technical issues in the Incubator.

It’s design is rooted in the principles of Tao. How cool is that!?

Why on Duolingo?
Other conlangs are being made and taught on Duolingo. Esperanto has been one of the most popular additions to Duolingo. Toki Pona is one of the largest conlangs, and would fit right in.

I’m from Brazil and I’m learning toki pona, esperanto and english.
If you do the toki pona course, more peoples will learn this language, and is very easy!March 8, 2019scarcererYour Esperanto comment made me do another pointless and non-scientific study. Here is how many learners each course (from English) has gained/day:

Spanish: 40 857 (since the launch for the general public)
French: 24 983
German: 15 807
Italian: 9 913
Russian: 6 565 (1st of the Incubator made courses)
Portuguese: 4 327
Swedish: 3 448
Dutch: 3 111
Turkish: 2 881
Irish: 2 761
Polish: 2 165
Hebrew: 1 860 (1st of the courses in beta/not on mobile)
Norwegian: 1 834
Danish: 1 624
Hungarian: 1 243
Welsh: 1 158
Esperanto: 1 102
Ukrainian: 972
Vietnamese: 726

I am aware of round numbers, people deleting their courses, using multiple accounts or most importantly, not being able to access some courses because they are mobile-only users and probably several other factors but I think this still gives a better idea of popularity than just the number of learners.July 20, 2016avidruckerThank you for these awesome TinyCards!March 6, 2018nyanyan52toki! mi pilin e ni : ni li pona mute! toki pona li pona mute tawa mi, tan ona li pona! mi toki Duolingo li wile jo e toki pona! pali pona! :)December 18, 2018sleepydraegonI ‘d love to contribute to the course! EDIT: Also, could you explain the grammar to me? Is it like English?July 20, 2016[deactivated user]Actually, I don’t think that would be the case. The 120 words need to be combined to make more.
For example, jan pona, which means friend, is literally good person.
It would be a shorter than average tree, but it could be at least 20-30 skills.July 20, 2016John00625Ok, I didn’t know that you use Toki Pona in that way. Interesting! Are there any online communities or forums that are in Toki Pona?July 20, 2016[deactivated user]Toki pona forums

LoganCulle3I can see that you are learning english, you are completely understandable to natives but you forgot the “a” inbetween not and very. There is a “the” inbetween to and the, also “It really good idea” should be “It’s a really good idea”. Just expose yourself to audio of native speakers and find the patterns for grammar so they become intuitive. Never feel like you can’t do well, I am doing worse with my languages I’m learning.April 14, 2020
